Laura Kalish grew up in the Detroit, Michigan area and came to Texas in 1979. Prior to becoming a lawyer she was a practicing Chiropractor. Laura received a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Texas Chiropractic College in Pasadena, Texas in 1983 and a law degree from University of Houston in 1988. After graduating from law school, Laura taught Jurisprudence at Texas Chiropractic College and spoke to professionals regarding risk management and other business issues. She currently writes a regular article, "Legal Corner", for the Texas Chiropractic Journal.

In 1993, Laura Kalish began to concentrate heavily on adoption cases, and is now a practicing Woodlands adoption attorney. She is involved in numerous adoption cases including foreign adoptions (reaffirmation and re-adoption), stepparent adoptions and other domestic cases. After several years of involvement with foreign adoption cases, Laura expanded her practice to include other family-based immigration cases.
